Announcing We Testify: Our Abortion Stories

Today, the National Network of Abortion Funds is launching We Testify, an abortion storyteller leadership program with an accompanying website to further shift the culture around abortion experiences.

Our abortion stories intersect with every part of our lives, and that’s why we’re reframing abortion access as connected to other anti-oppression work. We Testify demonstrates how our abortion stories tie so deeply to racial, economic, and gender justice. We Testify seeks to build the power and leadership of abortion storytellers of color, abortion storytellers from rural communities, LGBTQIA abortion storytellers, and abortion storytellers who need financial and logistical support when navigating barriers to access. Too often, those who have abortions aren’t seen as the experts. We’re excited to change that and put the power back in the hands of those who choose abortion. Since the beginning of time, sharing stories has been the way communities of color pass oral family histories, recipes, and health treatments to loved ones, and organize to fight for justice.

Through We Testify, we will work with abortion storytellers to build their leadership, educate the media, and change the narrative of abortion stories “told about us” to one of stories “told by us.”
