The confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court is a devastating blow to people who have abortions and to all who believe in equal rights and justice.
In her time on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, Judge Barrett ruled against abortion rights both times the issue was before her. She vocally signed on to a letter calling Roe v. Wade “barbaric.” Her record is clear: she will eviscerate abortion access, along with basic protections for people who seek abortions.
With Judge Barrett’s confirmation, the future of affordable health insurance for millions of people is also on the line, along with the fundamental rights of transgender communities, guaranteeing a living wage and labor justice for workers, especially undocumented workers, protecting the land and autonomy of Indigenous communities, and so much more.
The legal right to abortion is at stake, but protecting that right is the bare minimum. Abortion funds are steadfast in our resolve to fight for public funding for abortion, access to medication abortion, divesting from structures of state violence and investing in care for communities. We are already living in a time where more than 200,000 people call abortion funds every year, where immigrants in ICE detention centers are being subject to forced sterilizations, and where pregnant people, primarily people of color, are being prosecuted for ending their pregnancies or experiencing miscarriages.
Our goal is clear: we demand a system that protects the autonomy of people to have abortions, and to have and care for the families they want.
You know that our power and safety have never come from the White House or the Supreme Court. They come from us: our love, our roots, our values, and our resistance. Abortion funds will do what we’ve always done: support people in navigating barriers to abortion, and creating a world where we care for each other. Local funds have never had the resources to fully meet their communities’ needs and today the stakes are even higher.
We’re collectively in a time that feels unprecedented and overwhelming, but abortion funds are no strangers to difficult times. This moment calls for us to fight for the values we believe in, with people who have our backs. Join us in pooling our resources and redistributing them to people who are targeted by bad faith actors like Judge Barrett.

It’s going to be a long haul, but the best chance we have is to fight this together.
With love and power,
Yamani
