Bowl-a-Thon is back in 2017, & we’re going to raise a cool $1 Million!

It’s 2017 and Bowl-a-Thon is back! Bowl-a-Thon is how we show annually that the power of fundraising is a political act that redistributes wealth and privately funds abortions that should be covered no matter where folks live, what insurance they have or how much money they make. Bowl-a-Thon is a testament to how small amounts as low as $10 can snowball into a massive collective force.

This year, there will be events in 28 states plus the District of Columbia with 37 abortion funds participating. We have a goal of raising more than $1 million together! We came so close last year! We’re proud to be resilient in this changing political climate and in the face of ongoing anti-abortion aggression. We hope you’ll join us!

We learned so much about our network during Bowl-a-Thon 2016.

We learned that our network is a target for anti-abortion cyber attacks, so we need to devote more time, energy, and resources to the security of our network than we ever have in the past. We also learned that our network is incredibly resilient, and that we have a strong community willing to rally at a moment’s notice.

We won, together. Last year, we raised $940,000, making 2016 the most successful Bowl-a-Thon year ever. Every donation made will make a huge difference in the life of someone who might not have been able to get an abortion otherwise. We fundraise for abortion because people should be able to access abortion no matter their race, socioeconomic status, age, gender identity, or where they live.

We know abortion funds are targeted by anti-abortion extremists with violence and online harassment year round, especially when we are most visible and successful. Because NNAF is responsible for the network’s peer-to-peer fundraising, we are committed to growing our network’s fundraising potential through Bowl-a-Thon. This year, you can join an event, host an event, fundraise virtually, donate, share badges and flair on social media, and donate again! Throughout the month of April there will be amazing local events, not just bowling, but also Game-a-Thons, Dance-a-Thons, and even a (non-athletic) “Triathlon.” Participants have awesome team names like The Fempire Strikes Back, the Bowling Green Massacres, Striking Fear into the Hearts of Despots, and Make Abortion Great Again. If you don’t know us yet, this is a great way to join our community of abortion funds.
